How to throw a great company picnic this summer

Throwing a company picnic this summer? It has to be wonderful, unique, organized, and memorable! After all, you are planning it!
It’s a wonderful way to get people relaxed, out of the office, and to build team continuity amongst co-workers. Plus, it can be a great way to spend an afternoon. Most employees would prefer a weekday event if the company has the ability to host that timing. However a Saturday may work better if the whole family is invited.

Throwing a company picnic does take a bit of attention to detail. A location to host it may be a park, but you may want to talk to the local park administrator, which can usually be found through City Hall. Reserving a space with them ensures that your picnic doesn’t conflict with any other groups that may want the space.

After you find the space, post the time and date on your news board. Have “Food Name Tags” on the food items and perhaps have recipe cards for those potluck/homemade items, so those with allergies can see what is in the dish and also for those that would love to make that dish for their friends and family.
If you are catering in the food, you may either want to see if your company has a fund for such things, or take up a collection around the office.

The best company picnics in my experience are potlucks. The company should provide some of the central items, such as barbecue, sandwiches or a cake, but getting co-workers to bring their specialties helps everyone feel involved. Grills, Chafing Dishes, Pitchers… can all be rented. Please check out Knights Tent and Party Rental – www.knightspartyrental.com under Catering Items.

If someone in the office wants to be involved, but swears they can’t cook, draw them into planning decorations! Picnics are more fun when decorated with balloons, napkins, and so on. Look for a good picnic theme. After all, who wouldn’t want to go to a company luau?
Something special would also be a SLUSHIE MACHINE, or SNOW CONES for those hot summer days. Power would be required. Generators can be rented from Knights Tent and Party Rental also.

Bounce houses and Obstacle Courses as well as the traditional tug of war and potato sac games offer a great variety of family entertainment. Plan out the logistics well in advance of the picnic. Where will people park? How far will they have to walk to the picnic? What’s the backup plan for rain? How accessible are bathrooms and trashcans? Who is going to stay and clean up?
You got this! Make it fun, simple, active and it will be a success! Call us – we have great ideas !
